M51, the
Whirlpool Galaxy
M51 in
Canes Venatici is one of the sky's most prominent face-on spiral
galaxies, with its spiral arms visible to observers using medium
sized amateur telescopes. It's obviously also a double galaxy,
interacting with its prominent neighbor.
