M17, the Swan Nebula

Here's another of the many jewels of Sagittarius, and I trust you can see the form of the swimming swan from which it derives its name, even if she is swimming uphill in this orientation.. The nebula has other nicknames as well, such as the Omega, the Checkmark, and the Horseshoe, but none of these are as poetic or as appropriate as the Swan.
