The Mysteries of Love

painting vs. digital

These pieces depict a scene from one of my novels which hasn't been written yet. It partly concerns the difficulties of those who seek romantic love.

The image on the top left is an acrylic painting. Despite extensive work and repainting over the years, including as recently as March 2001, I was never fully satisfied with the painting. So, I decided to try a digital version, which is visible on the lower left. This was also less than satisfactory, with its weak, static composition and bad lighting. Therefore in 2007 I elected to make a new digital version which is a straightforward attempt to improve the original painting. You see the result on the right. It is actually a hybrid, because the sky and mountain backdrop and the portrait hanging on the right are scanned from the painting.
