Emphyrio

Jack Vance is one of the oldest and greatest living writers of science fiction and fantasy. He's also my favorite writer. Recently Jack and his family opened a web site as a source of e-book editions of his work. Most of Jack's books are out of print, so making them available in an electronic format is a boon to his fans.

Emphyrio is my favorite of Jack's standalone novels, concerning as it does society's under-appreciation and misuse of artists and also featuring one of Jack's classic cases of hopeless, ill-considered romance. It also has a father figure who many of us would have been happy to have as our own.

This cover I made for this e-book edition is a mixed media image. The space background is an oil painting, and I drew the figures in the carved wooden screen, but the ship and the rest was produced digitally.
