Comet PANSTARRS

This little comet was the opening act of what some people are calling, probably prematurely, the "Year of the Comet". Well, we'll see about that.

This was taken on March 30, 2013, while the receding comet lay in the constellation Andromeda. It is a stack of eight 30-second exposures shot through my 92mm Stowaway refractor while it gamely tracked along on my humble SkyView equatorial mount. In the foreground are the trees into which it was rapidly sinking, blurred by the mount's motion and simply by being out of focus due to their nearness.
