SL-9 Observations
Like most so-called or self-appointed experts, I predicted that the effects of the comet collisions would be too small to be seen by amateur astronomers. Therefore I was mightily impressed when I looked through my telescope on July 19, 1994 to behold the scene on the upper left. These are computer drawings based on notes and sketches made at the eyepiece. The observations were made in bright twilight under hazy conditions that yellowed the planet. These drawings were published in Sky & Telescope.
