The Whale and Hockey Stick Galaxies in Canes Venatici
The
Whale is more technically known as NGC 4631. We see its bulging form in
the lower right, accompanied by its blip of a companion NGC 4627.
In the upper left lies the "Hockey Stick", NGC 4657. with the characteristic hook or blade that gives it its nickname.
This was
made with my 92mm refractor from about 30 5-minute exposures
using a ZWO ASI294MC Pro camera. My site was in the Mojave Desert with a
Bortle Scale number of about 3.
